A Little Birdie Told Me – Works by Michael Villarreal will be on display at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts gallery from April 16 through June 1, 2018. Artist Michael Villarreal will present a gallery talk on May 17 at 5pm, coinciding with KHN’s Third Thursday Artist Talk Event.
A Little Birdie Told Me presents a body of work created from materials known for the construction of houses. Integrating materials such as insulation foam, wood, and paint, Villarreal creates sculptures to resemble the components that make up a house in order to reference memory, time, place, and self.
“Creating objects found in and around a household, my sculptures develop notions related to class. This idea is informed by the context of the objects I create and their relationship to the others, or by their familiarity.” Michael Villarreal
Michael Villarreal received his BFA in 2013 from Texas State University- San Marcos, and his MFA in 2017 from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Villarreal is the recipient of the 2017 Lincoln Mayor’s Arts Kimmel Award, Villarreal was a KHN resident in 2017.
